Help Us Make Motorcycle Riding Safer During Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

Due to our climate and Florida having some of the best roadways in the nation, many people move here to ride motorcycles all year long.  Not only do people ride motorcycles for leisure and to take in the sights and enjoy the sunshine, but many people use them as a means of transportation and commute to work on motorcycles. As a result, Florida has over 590,000 registered motorcycles and more than a million drivers with a motorcycle endorsement on their driver license, according to the governor’s office.

Because there are many motorcyclists in the Sunshine State and because motorcycle riders are vulnerable in crashes with other larger vehicles, it is important that public awareness is raised to make motorcycle riding safer. This is why the month of May is known as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

During this month, officials want all motorists to be reminded of sharing the road with motorcycles. If drivers are vigilant in their efforts and motorcyclists are riding smart and defensively, motorcycle accidents in Florida are reduced and everyone’s safety is improved.

This is very important since motorcycle fatalities have increased by about 90 percent and motorcycle injuries are up by 50 percent from 2001 to 2013, according to ridesmartFlorida.com.

As a motorcycle accident injury attorney, I also would like to raise public awareness for sharing the road with motorcyclists and safe motorcycle riding in an effort to reduce injuries and deaths on our roadways. Please join me in observing Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
