What Are Some South Florida Mountain Bike Accident Causes?

To the casual observer, location is the determining factor in attributing cause of a mountain biking accident within South Florida. Let’s remember that not everyone who rides a mountain bike uses it for off-roading on a rough mountain trail. Many mountain bikers share the same streets as do street bicyclists. And for those individuals, we know that Broward County bicyclists are prime targets for accidents. In fact, they are almost 50% more likely to get in an accident than an automobile driver.

Defective Mountain Bikes Cause Serious Injury

Mountain bike manufacturers have made remarkable safety improvements in recent years. For example, bicycle design, disk brakes, and dual suspension systems assist in giving the mountain bike rider extra control of the bike, which has helped to reduced injuries. Below is a list of recent mountain bike recalls which have been shown to cause serious injuries eligible for compensation.

  • Handlebar-Shimano PRO Atherton Handlebar Stem – The bolts holding the front plate of the stem can be pulled out of the threads during the ride, causing serious injury. Model PRSS0049 supplied from 2009-2010 and sold for $150 each.

  • Back Forks-Surly Pugsley Fat Bike Fork – Black 100mm non-off set fork with triple water bottle mounts. Models FK3175, FK3181 or FK0706 sold between 2012-2013 for $1750 each. The fork has been found to bend above the disc brake mount and may cause serious injury.

  • Girls Mountain Bike – Trek MT220 immediate recall found to cause frame failure, causing serious injury.

Some people who are injured from a mountain bike accident don’t realize that they are eligible for compensation. If you have been injured in a Broward County mountain bicycle accident that was not your fault, you need to talk to a Mountain Bicycle Accident Attorney who can assist you in filing a successful claim.
