Herniated Disc Disability Benefits For Florida Residents!

Herniated disc problems that South Florida residents may suffer from can be extremely painful and debilitating. In many cases a herniated disc can cause such severe pain, that the person suffering from it becomes bedridden. Their quality of life on everyday activities is shut down due to the pain.

A herniated disc which some people call a “ruptured disc” or a “slipped disc” can occur at any time. When the soft cushioning material of the disc located between two vertebrae has ruptured or been pushed out of position the nerves running by the spinal disc become compressed, pinched or irritated.

There are several things that can cause a herniated disc. The aging process is one of the causes. As we age, we lose flexibility of our muscles and joints.

A Broward County resident suffering from a herniated disc may find that they are unable to continue working. A compressed nerve caused from the herniated disc can cause back pain, leg pain, weakness in the leg area and arm pain. Sharp pain can travel down the buttocks resulting in stiffness.

Other problems that may occur from a herniated disc include:

  • Tingling sensations in the arms and legs
  • Feelings of “pins and needles” in the arm and legs
  • Numbness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Bowel and bladder problems

A person experiencing these severe symptoms from a herniated disc may be eligible for Social Security disability benefits in Florida. If after seeking medical help and there is no improvement and you are unable to work, it may be time to seek the assistance of an experienced Florida Social Security disability attorney.

Filing for Social Security Disability

The Social Security Administration has a Blue Book that has a list of different medical problems individuals may be experiencing to be eligible to receive disability benefits.

In Section 1:04 of the Blue Book it lists herniated discs.

Social Security Administration guidelines require that your medical records reveal the diagnosis of your condition and proof that the herniated disc pain and damage is severe enough to be approved for disability benefits. There must be evidence of nerve and root compression with symptoms such as pain, limited range of motion, muscle weakness, and sensory or reflex loss. Treatment must have been tried to resolve the problem.

If you are disabled as a result of a painful herniated disc problem and find that your condition limits your ability to work, you may be entitled to receive Social Security disability benefits in Florida. It is important that you discuss this with an experienced Broward County Social Security disability attorney.

Don’t wait to have a skilled Social Security disability lawyer review your case. The sooner you can file a claim, the sooner you will be able to collect the benefits you deserve.
