Riding a motorcycle is a daily routine for many residents of South Florida; however, with riding comes many risks. Sometimes, riding a motorcycle can lead to a crash and serious injuries. Whether someone is riding a Harley Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, or Ducati, it is important to know how to prevent a motorcycle accident in Florida from occurring in the first place.
Things to do to help avoid being in a motorcycle accident includes:
- Ride defensively
- Drive the speed limit
- Obey road rules
- Add additional lighting to the bike (i.e. headlight modulator or brake light flashers)
- Wear bright clothing or reflective gear
- Conduct regular maintenance
- Don’t weave in and out of traffic
- Wear safety gear
Obviously, wearing a motorcycle helmet, gloves, boots, and a leather jacket and pants will help protect you in the event of a crash, but the goal is to avoid being in a motorcycle accident altogether. In addition to the aforementioned list, it is critical for a safe ride to do two things—check two tires.
Checking Your Tires Could Save Your Life
Because the two tires underneath you are literally where the rubber meets the road, it is always important to inspect your tires before taking your bike for a ride. You can do this by conducting a quick visual inspection, if you are pressed for time. However, you should frequently take the time to conduct a more in depth tire inspection by:
- checking your tire pressure to make sure both tires are properly inflated
- checking tread depth to ensure your tires are safe for handling
- checking your tires for flat spots and bald spots
- checking to see if your valve stem covers are cracked or missing
By paying close attention to your tires and maintaining them, it can help reduce your chances of being in a motorcycle crash in South Florida. However, even a biker with tires in good condition can still end up in a crash as a result of another drivers’ negligence. If you were injured in a motorcycle wreck due to a careless driver, you should speak with an accident attorney. Contact Law Offices of David M. Benenfeld P.A
