There are many people who drive for a living such as truckers, traveling salesmen, and other various employees. Whether people drive for work, drive to an appointment while on the job, or commute to and from work, it is important that every employee is safe and careful on the road. This is the reason for Drive Safely Work Week.
This one week, the work week of October 6-10, 2014, highlights the importance of employers building a safety culture that includes road safety for all employees. The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) is sponsoring the 18th year of this campaign, and is calling leaders of companies to adopt a safety program that promotes road safety as part of the corporate safety culture.
Because the most dangerous part of an employee’s day is often sitting behind the wheel of their vehicles, NETS is hoping to get companies to focus on an employee’s overall safety including:
- Seat belt use
- Avoiding mobile device use while driving
Companies can talk with their employees about road safety in town hall meetings, through video messages, or in a letter or email. By making safe driving part of a company’s safety culture, everyone wins from employers to employees.
Because no one wants to suffer injuries and be out of work dealing with physical pain and suffering as a result of a car accident, it is in most companies’ best interests to promote roadway safety programs throughout their workforce. This will help employees stay safer and prevent employers from loosing employees to serious injuries or fatalities.
Unfortunately motor vehicle accidents are the number one cause of death at work and the second-leading cause of unintentional deaths on the job, according to the National Safety Council’s latest Injury Facts report. Hopefully, road safety programs will be adopted in many companies to help reduce the number of traffic crashes in Florida and nationwide.
If you have suffered an injury in a car crash while on the job or commuting to and from work, you may be entitled to financial compensation for your injuries.
