Apartment Residents At Risk For Florida Slip And Fall Accidents

Slip and fall accidents occur daily in Florida apartment buildings and throughout our nation. Residents of South Florida apartments are at risk of slip and fall accidents when apartment buildings and properties are not taken care of properly. Residents can fall, even breaking bones in the process.

When this happens, the property owners can be held liable for the resident’s injury, if it is shown that the slip and fall accident was, in fact, due to the improper care of the apartment building.

A property owner may be held liable for the following:

  • The owner/manager knows of a hazardous condition that may be a risk for residents and others on the property
  • The owner/manager didn’t take proper precautions to protect those on the property from possible dangerous conditions

Apartment Building Slip and Fall Hazards

The most common slip and fall accident in South Florida occurs when liquids are spilled on the floor. A tile floor will become slippery and may cause a resident to fall if the spill is not immediately cleaned. Other clutter may be left on the floor, as well, causing someone to trip and fall.

Sometimes maintenance workers and janitors may clean the floors with an incorrect cleaner. The floors, then, may become waxier or more slippery. Additionally, carpet may be in disrepair, and a woman may get her heel caught in a carpet loop, causing her to have a Florida slip and fall accident.

Another such cause of a slip and fall accident is rugs and runners not being properly held in place. When an unwary South Florida apartment resident steps onto a rug that’s on a tile or laminate floor, the rug can move, causing the resident to fall.

Injuries that Can Occur from Slip and Fall Accidents

When anyone falls to the ground due to a slip and fall accident in Florida, a number of injuries may occur. In most instances it results in a broken bone. Other injuries may be strains and sprains, broken limbs, and bruises.

Any of these types of injuries could cause the victim to miss work due to the Florida slip and fall accident and can leave him or her without the ability to drive or care for their self.

If you were injured as a result of improper care of an apartment building and have endured a Florida slip and fall or trip and fall accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.
