BMW and Volkswagen are recalling more than 500,000 vehicles because of technical problems.
Last October Volkswagen began a recall of 299,000 cars with diesel engines because of possible cracks in the fuel-injection system. VW has notified owners but does not say how many of the recalled vehicles responded.
The VW models affected with the cracks are the VW’s Golf, Passat, Jetta, Tiguan and other models that have been built since 2009. Other models affected are Audi, Skoda and Seat.
BMW also has reported a recall of 235,000 cars of its Mini brand worldwide due to a malfunction of the electric water pump that cools the turbo charger. No reported accidents have been reported due to the malfunction.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that BMW will recall 88,911 Mini and Mini Cooper cars in the United States.
The auxiliary water pump is used to cool the turbo charger that has an electronic circuit board that can malfunction and overheat. If this happens the circuit board can possibly catch on fire.
The recall will begin next month. BMW will contact the car owners and dealers. The water pump will be replaced free of charge.
The Law Office of David Benenfeld would like to remind Volkswagen and BMW owners to be aware of these recalls and make sure they have their vehicles inspected.
