Traffic Related Deaths Have Declined in South Florida

Law enforcement officials in Broward County have seen a 7 percent decline in traffic related deaths so far this year, compared to the previous year. In Palm Beach County, there has been a 6 percent decline.

If the trend continues, Palm Beach County could have a year-to-year decline in traffic deaths for the first time in four years. Broward County has seen a decline since 2006, but this year could be the most dramatic drop in years.

Traffic in Palm Beach County and Broward County has also decreased and these counties have counted fewer vehicles on the roads. The declines in traffic and traffic deaths have been following with the state and national trends. In August, the U.S. Department of Transportation reported a historic drop in traffic fatalities last year, which was the lowest since 1994.

The Federal Highway Administration reported that Americans are driving less than they did last year at this same time. Some of the possible reasons for this decrease are believed to be due to higher fuel costs and a slow economy. Traffic safety advocates are pleased with the respite.
