Teenage Boy Killed in Crash near Riverside Elementary School

Early Saturday, a teenage Coral Springs boy was killed in a car accident. Alejandro Romeo, 17 was riding with his mother when a truck hit the passenger side of their car and ended up crashing into Riverside Elementary School. The accident occurred at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Coral Ridge Drive.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Wayne McIntosh, a 47 year old Hollywood resident, was driving south on Coral Ridge Drive in a 2010 Nissan truck at approximately 12:10 a.m. Romeo’s mother, 52 year old Maria Uribe of Coral Springs, was driving at the intersection in the 2004 Honda Civic when McIntosh struck her car.
Romeo was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother was injured and taken to North Broward Medical Center. McIntosh and his passenger Claude, 19 of Fort Lauderdale both were in serious condition and taken to North Broward Medical.
According to police Lt. Joe McHugh, as Uribe came to the intersection there was a flashing red light and McIntosh had a flashing yellow light at the time of the crash. After the two vehicles collided, McIntosh’s truck struck a tree and then veered into Riverside Elementary School.
McHugh said, “There was obviously very extensive damage done to the school. Repair crews are out here working on the weekend trying to get it ready for school on Monday.”
Officials said school will reopen on Monday, officials said Sunday.
The accident is still under investigation.
