Study: SUV Safety Improving

A study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has found that midsize SUVs are becoming less dangerous in front crashes.  However, concerns remain in side and rear impact crashes.

Nearly all of the ten vehicles tested by the IIHS recieved the top rating for front crash protection. The Hummer H3 was the sole exception, earning only an "acceptable" rating.  The H3 also recieved the lowest possible score, "poor," in the rear crash protection test.

While SUV safety has been steadily improving over the years with the addition of safety features like Electronic Stability Control and side airbags, the vehicles are still more prone to roll over in an accident than a compact car is.
