General Motors and federal safety regulators announced on Friday that General Motors Co. is recalling its current year of Chevrolet Sonic subcompacts for missing front brake pads in the United States and Canada.
According to GM, there have been no known incidents of crashes or injuries and is recalling the cars to see if the inner or outer front brake pads are missing.
There were 4,296 Sonics sold in the United States and approximately 577 to Canadian customers. GM has indicated that their research showed that between 20 and 30 of the recalled cars were sold without one of the brake pads.
The customers who have purchased the Chevrolet Sonic will be informed of the recall in mid-January. If the brake pad is found to be missing in the Sonic, GM will if needed install new inner and outer pads. Any additional work such as replacing brake calipers and brake rotors will be done at that time with no cost to the customers.
GM started selling the Sonic this past year and it sold about 10,000 Sonics in the U.S. market through November.
The Law Office of David Benenfeld would like to warn customers who purchased a Chevrolet Sonic this past year to contact the dealership for an inspection.
