Royal Palm Beach Woman Awarded Millions for Crash That Paralyzed Her

Posted on Feb 28, 2010

A woman from Royal Palm Beach who was paralyzed from the waist down when a racing car lost control in 2007 was recently awarded $8.2 million by a Palm Beach County jury, according to the Sun Sentinel.  According to the article, Jennifer Durstin was trapped inside the vehicle of Alexandra Akan after Akan lost control when racing another car.  Durstin was 18 when the serious accident occurred.  The $8.2 million in damages is solely for compensatory damages, meaning that it is still up to jurors to decide if Durstin will receive punitive damages.  Akan was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the Palm Beach County crash.
