Pompano Beach Drawbridge Accident Traps Four Workers in Broward County

Posted on Mar 26, 2010

Four workers were trapped on the Atlantic Boulevard drawbridge in Pompano Beach recently when the bridge opened unexpectedly, according to the Sun Sentinel.  The Broward County workers began to repair the drawbridge because they thought it was weighted down properly with ballast to keep it closed, said the general contractor of the project.  When the hydraulic system was shut down, the bridge lifted the workers 60 feet above the Intercoastal Waterway, but firefighters were able to rescue all four men.  No injuries were reported.

Although there were no reported injuries in this Broward County accident, many work-related accidents in south Florida result in serious injuries, forcing some workers to take time off from work due to injuries or even permanent impairment.  If any of the employees had been hurt in this Pompano Beach drawbridge accident, they may have been able to file Broward County workers' compensation claims to help with medical bills, lost wages, and other expenses.  In workers' comp., it is not necessary to prove that an employer or any other party is at-fault:  if you're injured at work or while performing tasks related to your job, you are entitled to workers' compensation benefits, no matter how your injury occurred.  For more information on workers' comp. in Ft. Lauderdale and surrounding areas, contact us online or toll-free at 866-943-5766.
