Officer Charged in Fatal 2006 Hit & Run

Posted on Mar 21, 2008

A former Miami-Dade police officer has been charged with trying to cover up his role in a fatal hit & run in 2006.  The officer has pled no contest to leaving the scene of an accident that killed a 54 year old Pompano Beach, Florida man.

According to police, the 54 year old was rear-ended by a Lexus as he drove west on I-595.  His vehicle hit a side-rail and flipped over, ejecting the man and killing him instantly.

The Lexus driver fled the scene on foot, but the car was registered to the Miami-Dade police officer.  Police later found the officer at his house with several cuts and bruises consistent with being in a car crash.
