Missing FAU Student Found In Hospital With Serious Car Accident Injury

Posted on May 31, 2010

A Lake Worth car accident victim has been identified as 26-year-old Frantzdy Cherisma, a Florida Atlantic University student who has been missing since he left class in Boca Raton on May 18 to drive home on Interstate 95.

Florida Police say that the student was on I-95 when his car ran over a tractor-trailer rear bumper that had fallen into the road and damaged his vehicle. When the man stopped his car in the lane – police are not sure whether his car was disabled or not – another man, 48-year-old Kevin Dillard slammed into Cherisma, who had not engaged his hazard lights or given other cars any indication that he had come to a stop on the interstate. The car burst into flames with Cherisma inside.

The Florida Highway Patrol trooper at the FL car accident scene reported that Cherisma was rushed by paramedics to Delray Medical Center and then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment for his serious burns, which cover about half of his body. The young man was listed under his father’s name as hospital staff took his personal information from the driver’s license that he was carrying. He remains in critical condition after the fiery car accident, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, and has not been conscious since the Lake Worth crash took place.
