Miami-Dade Officer Survives Hit-And-Run Motorcycle Accident

Posted on May 31, 2010

A Doral Police Officer is recovering from serious injuries after he was struck by a motorist he was trying to pull over in Miami-Dade County. Officer Carlos Alvarez had just turned on his lights and was about to pull over a car that did not have its headlights on when the car struck him near the intersection of Southwest 35th Terrace and 102nd Avenue. Alvarez, who was about to finish his shift and head home from work when the motorcycle hit-and-run occurred, said that the crash took place on Sunday, May 23, just after 2 AM.

A home security camera in the area caught the Miami-Dade motorcycle accident – as well as a shot of the car that fled the scene of the crime. On Monday – many hours after the crash, 28-year-old Lisa Garcia turned herself in to police with the assistance of her attorney and then immediately paid a $5,000 bond to leave Miami-Dade County jail. At the same time, Miami-Dade Police were sweeping the neighborhood where their fellow officer was injured, passing out fliers and ultimately locating the car in question.

Alvarez suffered very serious injuries, including a fractured right him, but is expected to recover from his Florida motorcycle accident. Garcia has a history of criminal charges over the last ten years, including almost a dozen traffic infractions. For her recent hit-and-run offense, she faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries and driving without headlights.
