Miami Salsa Singer’s Dad Loses Control of Vehicle Killing Two Women

MIAMI – On Tuesday August 2, 2011 two women were killed as they sat on a bench in front of Gaitan’s shop, Celeste & Co. Boutique at a strip mall in Miami Gardens.

Pedro Ruiz the father of popular salsa singer Rey Ruiz lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a store according to the Miami-Dade County Police.  One of the women killed was pregnant.

The women were identified as 33-year-old store owner Celeste Gaitan, who was sixth months pregnant, and Laymet Albeldo, 28.

According to witnesses, Ruiz lost control of his red Chevrolet SUV while pulling into a parking space. Neither Pedro Ruiz nor his wife was injured in the accident.

Rey Ruiz said in a statement, “I know that at such a painful moment, words are not enough, but I want to express on behalf of my family, my parents and myself, from the bottom of our hearts, our deepest and sincere condolences to the families of these people who accidentally lost their lives today.”

The Havana-born singer’s hits include “No me acostumbro” and “Mi media mitad.” EFE
