Man Left in Wheelchair After Fort Lauderdale Hit-and-Run Accident

Posted on May 02, 2011

A couple weeks ago 29-year-old Jay Wiegmann rear-ended a car in Fort Lauderdale on East Las Olas Boulevard and Fiesta Way. He said it was a minor accident, but he got out of his car to check on the other driver. As he was walking back to his vehicle, he was struck by another car.

The car that struck Wiegmann was a white pickup truck that was speeding. Unfortunately, the driver of the pickup truck never stopped and continued to drive away from the accident scene.

Wiegmann was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment, as he was seriously injured in this Fort Lauderdale hit-and-run accident. He sustained hip fractures and a left leg fracture. His injuries left him in a wheelchair and he can barely move on his own. The doctors have indicated that he will only be in a wheelchair for a short time period and that he should be able to walk again.

He and his mother are pleading for the driver who hit him to come forward.

If any witnesses have further information on this hit-and-run accident, call the Broward County Crime Stoppers.
The Law Offices of David Benenfeld would like to wish Jay Wiegmann a full and quick recovery.
