Holiday Warnings from Florida Highway Patrol for Drivers to Stay Off the Road

As the year comes to an end, many Floridians will bring in the New Year with parties, fun and alcohol. All is well as long as you don’t get behind the wheel if you have been drinking.
The FHP is warning drivers across the state to stay off the road if they’ve been drinking. They are joining authorities in a nationwide campaign called Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. If you are behind the wheel and appear to be impaired, you will be pulled over.
The Christmas and New Year’s holiday travel period last year was responsible for approximately 35 percent of the traffic deaths from alcohol-related accidents, according to state figures.
Col. David Brierton, FHP director, said in a news release that the FHP will be “intensifying enforcement during the holidays.”
If you have been drinking, have a plan ready on how you will get home. Have a designated driver lined up or call a taxi, friend or family member to drive you home safely.
If you witness a driver who appears intoxicated, is driving aggressively or needs assistance in case of a car breakdown, you can call *FHP (*347).
If you are in need of emergency services, dial, 911.
