Fort Lauderdale Pedestrian Accident Results in a Fatality

On Sunday, June 5, 2011, a pedestrian was struck by a car in Fort Lauderdale in the 1100 block of West Broward Boulevard. According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the fatal accident occurred around 12:30 a.m.

Police officials did not release the victim's name until they were able to notify the deceased's next of kin, but they did describe the pedestrian as a white male in his 30s.

The driver who was responsible for this deadly Fort Lauderdale pedestrian accident is 44-year-old Jaime Valderrama, of Miami Beach. Authorities indicated that he was driving a 1999 Lexus and attempted to flee the accident scene; however police stopped him within a couple blocks in the 1400 block of West Broward Boulevard.

Later, police identified the man that was killed in this crash as 37-year-old Juan Herrera, of Fort Lauderdale. Officials stated that Herrera died from his injuries that he sustained when the car ran him over.

The Fort Lauderdale Police are urging anyone with information to call Investigator Knutten at 954-828-6016 or anonymously call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

The accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending against Valderrama at this time.
