Florida Governor Watches Staged Wrecks and Reacts!

Governor Rick Scott and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater learned first hand Thursday after viewing several types of staged automobile accidents from the Florida state troopers how at the expense of drivers a fraudulent billion-dollar industry is ripping them off.
After viewing these staged accident, both Scott and Atwater desires increased to stop the rampant cheating before the 2012 legislative session finishes March 9.
Scott prefers the House version of legislation being debated, but said, “This is, to me, a no-brainer. Why wouldn’t we want to fix it and be aggressive in fixing it?”
The Senate proposal being reviewed requires more detailed police reports after an accident and places tighter restrictions on pain clinics. Scott and Atwater are in agreement with the House bill that calls for those hurt in an accident go to a hospital emergency or hospital-owned walk-in clinic within 72 hours for personal-injury coverage to kick in.
Scott is pushing for the Legislature to toughen the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) legislation and crack down on the schemers that are hurting the consumers. Scott said these schemers are making it too expensive for many people to afford the mandatory insurance.
“It’s going to take every citizen calling their lawmakers and say: work for us, this is fraud against us, work for us, don’t work for the trial lawyers, don’t work for the providers who are taking advantage of the system,” Scott said. He added, “I hope everybody calls their lawmakers and says: look, this is fraud, we want this stopped.”
