Florida Cracking Down on Drunk Drivers

Posted on Aug 20, 2008

The Florida Highway Patrol is cracking down on drunk drivers.  State troopers will be looking for drivers under the influence as part of the campaign known as “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.”

The Director of the Florida Highway Patrol stated that there were more than 22,000 alcohol-related crashes across the state in 2006.  Officials believe the campaign is necessary because there were over 13,500 people killed in drunk driving accidents across the country in 2006.  These accidents involved a driver with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher.  All 50 states and Puerto Rico have set .08 as the blood alcohol level at which drivers are considered impaired.

This campaign is expected to go on for two weeks and will go through Labor Day on September 1.
