Fatal Accident in Boynton Beach: Palm Beach Resident Killed Not Wearing a Seatbelt

Posted on Apr 02, 2011

Shawn Finigan, a 42-year-old West Palm Beach resident, died after his 2004 Ford pickup truck rolled over Monday morning, March 28, 2011.

In a news release, Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Tim Frith said Finigan was driving his 2004 Ford F-250 at about 10:30 a.m. southbound on Interstate 95 just south of the Gateway Boulevard exit in the HOV lane. The other driver, Lauren Lorenzo, 18, of Miami, was driving a 2011 Honda Civic southbound in the left center lane when she changed lanes and struck the left rear of Finigan's truck.

The release said that Finigan's truck and Lorenzo's car bumpers linked together causing both vehicles to run off the road, and they flipped over on the grass shoulder.

Finigan was thrown out of the truck and died at the scene. His brother, Michael Finigan, also from West Palm Beach, was a passenger in the pickup truck. He was taken to Delray Medical Center in serious condition. The release said neither the driver nor the passengers were wearing their seat belts.

Lorenzo, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Bethesda Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The use of alcohol or drugs was not suspected in this Boynton Beach accident.

The Law Offices of David Benenfeld would like to wish the Finigan family our deepest sympathy and condolences, and we would like to wish all the others involved in this accident a full and speedy recovery.
