Driver Fled Accident Scene After Fatal Fort Lauderdale Motorcycle Crash

On Sunday, June 5, 2011, a fatal motorcycle accident in South Florida occurred.Florida Highway Patrol said that the Fort Lauderdale motorcycle crash occurred on Interstate 95 around 4:30 a.m., near the Sunrise Boulevard exit. Jeffrey J. Fishman, the 25-year-old motorcyclist, was driving northbound on I-95, south of Sunrise Boulevard, when the accident occurred.

Fishman, of Boca Raton, was riding a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle and was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. However, Fishman was thrown from the bike and suffered catastrophic injuries.

Officials indicated that Fishman crashed into the back of a 2001 Mercedes-Benz that was driven by 23-year-old Antoine R. Williams, of Lauderhill.

Fishman was transported to Broward General Medical Center, but was pronounced dead.

The accident remains under investigation, as the driver of the Mercedes fled from the accident scene. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Williams and his female passenger took off from the crash site, but then they later returned. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended ID card, and driving without a valid driver's license.
