Cherry Picker Catches Fire: Workers Rescued

Posted on Jul 24, 2011

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) – Police said two workers on July 22, 2011 were repairing a security camera located on top of a church.  Their equipment hit a power line. According to the paramedics, the tires on the hydraulic lift burnt quickly and acted as a base, which may have saved the workers' lives. The two workers were trapped in the cherry picker for about 30 minutes before being safely brought down and rushed to the hospital.

The two men were rescued by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue who was able to use a bucket truck from Florida Power and Light to get to the men.  Each of the men were separately placed into the bucket truck and brought down to safety. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Phil Osaba said, "I would say it was probably about 25 to 30 feet, and overall in order to bring them down safely we waited about 30 minutes."

The men were airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center. Officials said both men suffered shocks and appeared to have been electrocuted, but they were both responsive. Burns were apparent on their skin. Officials said both men appear to be OK.

The Law Offices of David Benenfeld would like to wish the injured passengers involved in the accident a full and speedy recovery.
