Car Vanishes After Tri-Rail Crash in Broward County

Posted on Nov 15, 2011

A dramatic crash involving a Tri-Rail train and a car that was stuck on the tracks was witnessed by many.

According to witnesses the vehicle stalled on the tracks near Commercial Boulevard and Powerline Road on Sunday evening November 6.  Emergency 911 calls were made when the train carrying 275 people crashed into the stalled car.

The driver and two passengers were able to escape before the train crashed into the car.  The car burst into flames as it became wedged underneath the train.  One of the witnesses told the 911 dispatcher, “The car is gone…What are we supposed to do now?”

There were 11 passengers riding in the train that were injured and taken to hospitals.  Most of the passengers were treated and released.  Three passengers remained at Holy Cross Hospital.

One of the passengers told the 911 dispatcher that, “We were on the train…and the horn went off in the train, you know to clear the tracks.  The next thing we know, we felt a large jolt and it knocked anybody that was standing on the floor….I’m looking at a lady on the ground right now that had a seizure, she had blood coming out of her mouth.”

This tragic scene was witnessed by many motorists.

The Law Office of David Benenfeld would like to wish the passengers that were injured in this terrible train accident a speedy recovery.
