A Truck Kills Palm Beach Homeless Man Sleeping Under a Truck

Posted on Feb 15, 2012

Deray Beach police are investigating a truck driver who is facing charges after rolling over a homeless man.  The homeless man was sleeping under the truck and was killed when the event took place.

John Douglas Ongert, 55, was sleeping under the truck on February 4 in a public-access parking lot behind 330 NE Fourth St.  Police officers found Ongert’s body under a large white box truck.  It appeared Ongert went under the truck to get out of the rain and fell asleep.

The driver of the truck Francisco Jiron-Bracamonte, 39, was not charged with the death of Ongert.  However he was arrested for operating a vehicle without a driver’s license and causing a fatality according to the police report.

Not knowing Ongert was under the truck Jiron-Bracamonte got into the driver’s seat and moved the truck forward.  The rear tires rolled over Ongert’s head, killing him.

The Law Office of David Benenfeld is saddened by this unfortunate death and extends their condolences to the Jiron-Bracamonte family.
