11 Tips for Safe Driving Over Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend is the last fling for many families to do some last minute travel. It also means that millions of drivers are taking to the roads.
Safety on the road must be adhered by all in order to keep this a safe Labor Day holiday weekend.
You probably think you know all the rules, but here are some reminders that are worth repeating.
Get a car checkup. Make sure your car or vehicle is in good condition for travel. Check your car’s fluid levels, tire condition and pressure, and wipers.
Check the weather condition for the destination you will be traveling to.
Create a car safety kit. In case you break down on the road, your safety kit should include a blanket, flashlight with extra batteries, first aid kit, jumper cables, water and non-perishable food, medication, and emergency phone numbers.
- Get a good night’s sleep. Make sure you are rested. If you are tired you are less alert and may fall asleep. Your judgment is impaired if you are sleepy.
- Leave early to avoid traffic.
- Make sure everyone in the vehicle has their seatbelts on.
- Check infant seats and car seats to make sure they are properly installed in the vehicle.
- No tailgating.
- Don’t drink and drive.
- Don’t text and drive.
- Set your GPS up for your location before you leave or have a passenger do it if you are on the road.
- Drive defensively.
- Obey all traffic signals and signs.
- No speeding.
