My Blood Disorder Doesn’t Necessarily Fit The Listing Requirement That Social Security Has In Place. Does That Mean That I May Not Qualify For Disability Benefits?

A: It is true that when you file an application for disability benefits in Florida that the Social Security Administration (SSA) will assign a claims examiner to your file to review it and determine if your impairment meets the Listing of Impairments in their blue book. There is a section in this manual dedicated to blood disorder impairments, also known as hematological disorders.  If you don’t meet the listings criteria, you may still be able to qualify for benefits.

If your blood disorder keeps you from being able to work and your impairment is serious enough that you believe you should qualify for disability benefits in Florida, then you should speak with your doctor and a disability attorney to find out how you can qualify under the listings Social Security has in place.

The requirements of the listing can be complex and overwhelming to deal with on your own. This is why you need to speak with an attorney knowledgeable in this area of the law. You may be able to get benefits based on limited functioning.

However, the Social Security Administration will thoroughly evaluate your case to determine if your impairment is severe, keeping you from work, or affecting you from performing a job you have done over the last 15 years.

A skilled South Florida Social Security disability attorney can help you fill out the claim correctly and collect all acceptable medical evidence that the claims examiner will want to review before making a ruling.
