Types of Slip & Fall Accidents: Same-Level Falls and Elevated Falls

We recently posted a blog about slip and fall accidents that occur specifically in the workplace  (click here to read it).  Many different venues, however, are home to numerous slip and fall accidents per year, which fall into different categories by type (according to the National Ag Safety Database):

Same Level Falls
These types of accidents include slip and falls as well as trips and steps that result in falls.  Same-level fall accidents occur most frequently and typically result in minor injuries caused by slippery surfaces, unexpected stair heights or levels when stepping up and down, and objects obstructing one's path.  At times, however, same level falls have resulted in more serious injuries, such as blows to the head, broken bones, hurt backs, and traumatic brain injury.

Elevated Falls
Elevated fall injuries can result from falls from ladders, whether they are portable or fixed, falls from equipment or vehicles, such as trucks, tractors, and other equipment, or falls from loading docks or stairs.  While these types of accidents occur less frequently than same level falls, they typically result in more severe injuries.
