Reviewing Your Florida Disability

Did you know that if you receive Social Security disability benefits – your medical condition will be reviewed on a regular basis?  The frequency of review depends on your specific disability.  For example, if your medical condition was expected to improve, your first review will take place anywhere from 6 to 18 months after the date you became disabled.

The Social Security office will send you a notice before a scheduled review.  You will be requested to appear in the local office.  During your appointment, questions will be asked regarding your current condition and if you have experienced any improvement.  They will also ask for the names, addresses and phone numbers of your physicians, hospitals and other providers.  The information will be used to obtain and analyze your medical records.

The Florida Disability Determination Services is responsible for making disability decisions regarding Florida residents for the Social Security Administration.  This agency will determine if you are able to work and if they believe your condition has improved, your disability benefits will stop.
