Losing A Loved One: Family Loses Broward County Deputy in Tragic Fort Lauderdale Accident

Losing a loved one in a fatal accident is likely the most traumatic, devastating loss a family could experience.  This weekend, another Fort Lauderdale family experienced this indescribable tragedy of wrongful death when an out-of-control car caused a fatal collision on Northwest 199th Avenue.  According to Luis F. Perez and Macollvie Jean-François of the South Florida Sun Sentinel online,  Broward County Deputy Michael Martin was involved in the fatal accident Saturday after leaving work at the Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale to head home.  The Broward Sheriff's Office detention deputy, 47, left work around 3:00 p.m. and was struck by a speeding driver on Northwest 199th Avenue, just two miles from his home.  According to Miami Gardens police, the speeding driver's vehicle went "out of control" before hitting two other vehicles and Deputy Martin's Toyota Corolla.  Upon impact, Martin's vehicle spun, turned on its side, and slammed into a utility pole and street sign before careening through bushes and colliding with another car.  According to the article, the deputy was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died.  The driver who caused the collision sustained minor injuries in the crash and was not arrested, pending further investigation.  Michael Martin's family says that the Fort Lauderdale deputy was "touched by God" and "like a ray of sunshine."  Our deepest sympathies are with the family of Deputy Martin as they mourn his wrongful death.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you or any questions you would like to have answered for free.
