Accidents involving multiple victims can be complicated for victims wishing to file a claim for compensation. A two-car
auto accident in
Apopka, Florida, for example, sent six people to the hospital with injuries Sunday morning, according to Sara K. Clarke of the
Orlando Sentinel online. The
Orange County Fire Rescue Department reported that the accident occurred at the corner of Hass Road and Plymouth Sorrento Road and brought authorities to the scene just after 11:00 a.m. At least one of the vehicles overturned in the crash, with at least one person trapped inside. Although two of the injured were treated at the accident scene and released, six were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The
Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the
auto accident.
If only one party was at fault in this
car accident and all eight of the injured chose to file a claim, what might happen? Coverage statements do have policy limits per accident (as well as per person), meaning that if the eight injured people in this crash filed a claim against the same insurance company and policy, the maximum amount awarded per accident would have to be split among them depending on medical bills and other factors. Insurance companies, however, try to give as little information to policyholders as well as those filing claims, and they attempt to make victims with less serious injuries believe that they cannot recover much in their claim. In many cases, symptoms take days or even months to manifest in injured victims, and insurance companies try to rush victims with less apparent injuries to accept payment quickly so they will not be responsible for future medical care or suffering of the victim.
